Fascinant cette découverte, faite sur le blog commenté hier : l'équipe de prière pour le président (
Presidential prayer Team). Ce club de supporters du président Bush entend faire prier chaque jour les américains bien pensants pour que Dieu continue d'inspirer et de soutenir son action.
La prière du 27 avril par exemple :

Bon, une preuve de plus de l'espèce de religion civile qui inspire de nombreux américains, confondant Dieu, le Président et les USA, pour le meilleur (un sentiment de cohésion tenace) et pour le pire (une ouverture d'esprit très relative).
il ne faut pas croire que ce ne sont là que quelques demi-cinglés. Le site renvoie notamment au site du très officiel
National Day of Prayer, instauré par Truman en 1952 - en pleine guerre froide.
Le site, pas mal fait, donne une histoire de la prière aux Etats-Unis, des références à Dieu dans la culture civique américaine. Les paroles du serment d'allégeance (1892), récité tous les matins dans les écoles, sont rappelées : "
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America
and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible
with liberty and justice for all."
